Mrs. Shomer
6th Grade
Welcome to Teen Leadership!!!!!!
You are in for an AWESOME experience. I am Mrs. Shomer and this is my first year to teach Teen Leadership at ACMS. I am excited about the bonds we will create together this year and all the fun we are going to have. A few details about our year together are as follows:
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The goals of Teen Leadership are to provide middle school students with lifelong skills that will help them to adapt to the ever changing world. They will learn self-awareness, self-control, motivation, and personal responsibility as well as leadership, professional, business, and social skills. Students will also learn public speaking skills and techniques on dealing with pressure.
This course has been developed by the M.B. (Flip) Flippen group and is being taught around the world in both education and business formats.
COURSE GRADING
40% Speech outlines and Journal entries
60% Course questionnaires, Affirmations, Workbook & Notes, Daily Activities, Conduct
**Journal entries need to be at least 2 complete sentences. Grades are given for completeness and on topic writing.
**Daily activity grades are given for role-play participation, group discussion, weekly group leading & greeting and for affirmation writing.
** Conduct grade: Your conduct is related to how well you follow the rules of the class and the teacher instructions. If you have to be redirected to complete an assignment it will be noted for your conduct grade. Accountability is important for learning to be a good leader and following rules and directions is critical to leadership.
All work must be made up when an absence occurs including journal writing. You need to get the journal prompt from a class member and write the journal entry and get any notes that you missed.
Speeches take 2-3 days to complete and if an absence occurs prior to the start of the speech days, you will be given a 2 day grace to do your speech unless we are at the end of a grading cycle. If absence occurs during speech days, you need to be prepared to give speech upon your return.
*****This classroom is a NO CELL PHONE ZONE!!!******
